This homemade carpet cleaner for carpet odors is one of the best things around. It takes less than a couple minutes to make, costs pennies, and works wonders.

Easy Homemade Carpet Cleaner

Variations of this recipe have been around for a bit, but I have one important ingredient that makes it so much better than all the others.

Supplies Needed To Make Homemade Carpet Cleaner:

Borax
Baking Soda
Purification essential oil (10 drops)

The key ingredient here that makes this recipe so perfect is the Purification essential oil. This blend specifically neutralizes odors. It’s a combination of citronella, lavender, lemongrass, rosemary, myrtle, and tea tree. The aromas are strong and powerful.

I also add in lemon for an extra fresh scent and because lemon on it’s own can help to remove odors. These two oils together are magic!

Directions To Make Homemade Carpet Cleaner:

All you need to do is combine equal parts Borax and baking soda, then add in oils and stir with a fork.
To cover the carpeted areas on the main floor of my house I use 1/3 cup of each. I would start with that amount and increase it as needed.
Sprinkle the homemade carpet cleaner all over your carpets and let it sit for at least an hour. You can leave it all night if you’d like!
Then, vacuum the homemade carpet cleaner up. Your carpets will smell so fresh and give your house a lovely scent.

Notes:

You can make this in large batches and save for when you need it, but I prefer to make it individually each time.

I typically use it about once a month. (maybe more often if I’m having company over and want the house to smell great)
