[BlogFrog_px tk=”78-O-JT”]Do your kids obsess about some things? My son loves dinosaurs, he loves learning about science and history through them. And I love how extinct animals are inspiring him., broadening his imagination. This activity is part science, part art, part history, 100% fun and inspired by Dino Dan. RedBox has Dino Dan: Dino Trackers and Ready Set, Dino on DVD… and I have a happy “exploring” boy!
Our Dino Fizzy Tracks:
We have dozens of dinosaurs in all species, sizes and colors. Perfect for the budding scientist. The kids love to make dino worlds and dinos on trains and bubbly dino baths, even paper costumes for their dinosaurs. So when I saw Jamie’s colored vinegar baking soda experiment on Pinterest, I knew we could have some real fun with this – getting to live in our own Dino Dan world, be a tracker, match the footprints to the animals.
We started with our top collection of dinos, an old cookie sheet and a mound of baking soda. I made the fizzy colors by mixing six drops of food coloring with an ounce or so of vinegar, I gave them one of each color – red, blue, green and yellow. We borrowed our medicine droppers and turkey basters from our experiment box and got busy getting fizzy (sorry, I couldn’t help myself)!
Make sure the dinos are pressed in to the baking soda, but not all the way down to the metal. You want a layer of baking soda under their feet to create the footprint or a track. When the colored vinegar makes contact with the baking soda, all the fun begins. Colorful, fizzy eruptions!
Just making the baking soda fizz and turning things different colors will keep them occupied for quite some time, but when you notice them needing something more … tell them to drop color around the dinos feet. Then very carefully lift him up to see the track they created! Try using one two colors or even more, a whole new game begins …
I won’t spoil it for you, you’re going to have to try this on your own and tell me how your footprints turn out! 🙂 Thanks Redbox and Dino Dan for sponsoring this post – we love summertime fun with Redbox!
