We are so excited to bring you a fun DIY magnetic adventure game, inspired by Dora and the Lost City of Gold, in theaters August 9.
My son grew up watching Dora and her fun adventures. He especially loved the episodes where Dora was joined by her cousin, Diego. We would watch episode after episode when he was a toddler — and now, I can’t wait to watch the new Dora movie with him.
Dora and the Lost City of Gold
Having spent most of her life exploring the jungle with her parents, nothing could prepare Dora (Isabela Moner) for her most dangerous adventure ever – High School. Always the explorer, Dora quickly finds herself leading Boots (her best friend, a monkey), Diego (Jeffrey Wahlberg), a mysterious jungle inhabitant (Eugenio Derbez), and a rag tag group of teens on a live-action adventure to save her parents (Eva Longoria, Michael Peña) and solve the impossible mystery behind a lost city of gold.
I love how the movie doesn’t take itself too seriously. The trailer is filly with jokes, silly moments, and situations that make Dora seem endearing.
We wanted to give kids the chance to have their own Dora-inspired adventure, so we put together a DIY magnetic adventure game featuring characters from the movie!
DIY Magnetic Adventure Game
Here’s what you need to make this DIY Magnetic Adventure Game:
- Flat cookie sheet
- Magnetic tape
- Magnetic adventure game printable
- Jungle Background
- White cardstock
- Scissors
- Foam brush
- Mod Podge
Print the magnetic adventure game printable and the jungle background on the white cardstock.
Paint the back of the jungle background with Mod Podge using the foam brush. Place it onto the flat cookie sheet. Coat the front with a thin layer of Mod Podge. Allow to dry fully.
Use the scissors to cut out the game pieces from the magnetic adventure game printable. Cut pieces of the magnetic game to fit the back. Attach to the back of each game piece.
There are two different games included in the printable.
First, is a matching game that would be fun for preschoolers and younger children.
Kids can try their hand at matching these cards. Shuffle them, then turn them upside down. Flip the cards two at a time until you reveal a match — if a match is found, remove those cards from the game board.
And secondly, a printable adventure game featuring the characters from the film and some other fun items — quicksand, a vine, and other fun things you can find in a jungle adventure.
Kids can use the pieces of their favorite characters to imagine scenes from the movie and play as if they’re in their very own live action Dora movie!
My kiddo had so much fun imagining his own adventure with Dora, Boots, and Swiper. We can’t wait to see the movie, in theaters August 9!
